The Sheldon Jackson Museum is pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition Tradition Innovation and the accompanying Reception and Artist Talk on Saturday, January 16th at 3pm. In this first Solo Show Exhibition Series, artist Peter Williams (Yup’ik) will provide an overview of new, recent work in this exhibition of garments, two-dimensional art, objects, film and contemporary media highlighting the lifestyle and creation of his Alaska Native and environmental based art. Williams describes his style as being “rooted in Yup’ik ways of knowing and being, guided by tradition and respect”; his art is deeply connected to his advocacy for the rights of Alaska Natives to live a traditional lifestyle in the present day.
