for the 2025 series
The Share Your Culture Share / Your Research series is the Friends of Sheldon Jackson Museum program that runs through the winter or spring and focuses on subjects connected to Alaska Native cultures. The speaker series utilizes an online presentation format to share and record Alaska Native culture. Presentations take many forms including language lessons, cooking demonstrations and recipe sharing, storytelling, insight on traditional ecological knowledge, songs, dances, and more. Presentations on sovereignty, boarding schools in Alaska, subsistence, museum collections, and more are welcome.
Applications are closed for the 2025 series. Typically the open call for Culture Bearers goes out in late fall every year for the next cycle of presentations.
- Speakers will need computer access and internet with sufficient bandwidth for Zoom.
- At the end of each event, the speaker will give a short Q & A.
- If selected, speakers will need to provide a brief bio and images to help advertise the event.
- A test run will be done ahead of the event to ensure sufficient connection quality.
- Speakers will receive a $200 honorarium from the Friends of Sheldon Jackson Museum for their participation.
- If speakers are in Sitka at the time of the event, they may do their presentation in-person at the museum and simultaneously on Zoom.
