This is day 1 of a 3-day workshop to make moccasins with Iñupiaq artist Kris Waymire. The workshop is 17 hours total. This class is in-person only at Sheldon Jackson Museum. There is no zoom option available.
Limited to 8 students, for ages 12 and older.

3) Saturday, September 19, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Each day has an hour lunch break from noon -1pm
Participants must attend all three days. The class is free, but there is a material expense. Students need to make a $30 check out to Kris Waymire at the time of sign up. The artist will provide materials at the first session. In this 3-part workshop, Kris will also offer an Inupiat-style low-moccasin making. Kris’s moccasins are based on their experience learning sewing from Kivalina family in recent years.
Kris Waymire is Iñupiaq and Peruvian who creates mostly with beads and textiles. They are the SJM Native Artist in Residence from September 16 – 30, 2026.
