The Yup’ik dance groups have always been the biggest groups at MEHS. They practice two times a week and know a lot of fun songs as Yup’ik people like to laugh easily.

The Unangax dance group comprises nine student dancers who come from the islands of the chain and the Pribaloff Islands in the Bering Sea.

Dance is used for storytelling and often reflect aspects of the flora and fauna of the area. Each dance group will introduce itself, share a bit about their culture, and then do several dances. Before each dance, a student will introduce the dance and song.  Then there is time set aside for questions afterwards.

MEHS has several student dance groups that share Alaska Native cultures through the storytelling of song and dance.
