Come to the Sheldon Jackson Museum at 1pm on Sat., Feb. 15th for the Friends of Sheldon Jackson Museum’s Annual Meeting! We are very pleased to be hosting Sven Haakanson as guest speaker for this special event. He will be speaking about the masks collected by Alphonse Pinart in his lecture entitled “Reading between the lines of historical accounts written by A. Pinart in 1871-72.”
Sven Haakanson is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Washington and the Curator of North American Anthropology at Burke Museum. He served for 13 years as Executive Director of the Alutiiq Museum in Kodiak, Alaska. As a Native Sugpiaq from Kodiak, an archaeologist and artist, his straddles worlds in an effort to share, preserve and give contemporary meaning to Indigenous histories and traditions.
The Board of Directors will conduct its business meeting at 1pm prior to Haakanson’s 2pm lecture.
