On Thursday, September 3rd at noon, Larissa Kramer (Sugpiaq) will give a talk on Alaska Native art and cultural history. This free public program is offered in person at the museum and simultaneously online.

Kramer says, “From pre-colonial ways of life to modern social media trends, indigenous cultures throughout Alaska have always found creative and resourceful ways to make essentials for survival, decoration, and for honoring the spirits that live amongst us. Did you know that during pre-colonial times, the Unangax people had brain surgeons that practiced brain surgeries on otter and enemies to be able to treat conditions and illnesses in a way that is considered sophisticated even by today’s standards?”
