On Friday, August 22, artist-in-residence, Sydney Akagi (Tlingit, Kiks.ádi) will teach a class on ravenstail weaving using the finger-twining technique. Students will learn finger-twining in this 4-hour workshop and apply the technique to making a keychain. The class is from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm, with a hour long lunch break from noon – 1:00 pm. This workshop is only offered in-person at the museum.

Limited to 6 students. This class is open to ages 7+.

There is no fee to attend, but students will need to provide a check for $25 made out to the artist at the time of sign up to cover material costs. Materials will be provided at the start of the class. Participants should bring a pair of sharp scissors to cut yarn. Advanced registration required. Sydney Akagi is a Tlingit, Kiks.ádi weaver of both Ravenstail and Chilkat. She is the SJM Native Artist in Residence from August 18 – August 29, 2025.
