We are pleased to announce that the Friends of Sheldon Jackson Museum have been awarded a grant in the amount of $25,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts for the 2025 Alaska Native Artist Residency Program. The NEA has been supporting our residency program for nearly 30 years. The award was issued through the Art Works II Grant in the category of Folk & Traditional Arts. We received notice last week of the award amount based on an application for the Art Works II grants submitted to the Arts Endowment earlier this year. We expect to receive funds on June 1, 2025. This category reflected the wide range of performances, exhibitions, and activities that the agency has traditionally funded.
In the popular Native Artist Residency Program, indigenous artists from around the state participate in residencies at the museum, during which time they study the collections, provide cultural consultations to museum staff, and share their work with the public through artist lectures, hands-on workshops, and demonstrations. Thank you to the National Endowment for the Arts for continuing to partner with the Friends of Sheldon Jackson Museum to underwrite the Native Artist Residency Program at the Sheldon Jackson Museum.
