Laine Rinehart (Tlingit) Weaver @ Sheldon Jackson Museum | Sitka | Alaska | United States

We are pleased to announce the second artist in our Native Artist Residency Program for 2021, Laine Rinehart.

Rinehart’s Tlingit name is Neech Yannagut Yéil. He is of the Teeyhíttaan clan (Cedar Bark House) from Wrangell, Alaska. He is also child of the Kagwaantaan through his father’s side. In the summer of 2010, he began weaving in Kay Parker’s Ravenstail class and has since gone on to work with Lily Hope, her mother Clarissa Rizal, and many other women he looks to as mentors. He is immensely grateful to be allowed to participate in a way of being that would generally be unavailable to men and strives to honor the practices and traditions of Chilkat weaving.

For additional information on the Alaska Native Artist Residency Program, a schedule of when artists will be working at the museum, or for information on museum hours of operation, admission fees, and covid mitigation processes, please call the museum at (907) 747-8981.
