Tinaa Making Basics with Eechdaa Dave Ketah (Tlingit), in-person and on Zoom, simultaneously, Sheldon Jackson Museum
Two 3-hour sessions on Saturday, July 9th from 1-4pm and Saturday July 16th from 1-4pm
As part of the Alaska Native Artist Residency Program, artist Eechdaa Dave Ketah (Tlingit) will offer a Tinaa Making Basics class at the Sheldon Jackson Museum and on Zoom on Saturday, July 9th from 1-4pm and Saturday July 16th from 1-4pm. Students should plan to attend both three-hour sessions to learn to make the tinaa. During this class, each participant will make one tinaa pendant and a pair of tinaa earrings and have enough material leftover to make a second pendant.
The tinaa making class class will be limited in size and is open to students ages 12-adult. The class is free, but students must purchase pre-made tinaa kits for $25 by June 10th and purchase several inexpensive tools, unless they have them on-hand, prior to the first day of class. The list of tools and links for purchasing them online is available from the museum. To sign up for the class, get the tools list, and pay the $25 kit fee, or get the zoom link, if attending via zoom, people should call (907) 747-8981.
