Sheldon Jackson Museum upcoming artist-in-residence Robert Hoffmann (Tlingit) will teach a free formline block print making class for adults June 24th- June 27th, June 30th and July 1st from 2:30-4:00pm. Students should plan to attend all classes and will need to purchase some materials in advance to be able to participate in the class. The formline block print making class is tentatively scheduled to take place at the museum though students who prefer to participate via Zoom, will have that option. Space will be limited for people attending the class-in-person. Depending upon museum operations and guidance from the State of Alaska, the class may shift completely to being on Zoom if necessary.
Robert (Davis) Hoffmann, Xaashuch’eet, is originally from Kake. He is primarily a wood carver and painter but has also worked with casting and multimedia sculpture. In addition to being a visual artist, Hoffman is an accomplished and published poet. He will be an artist-in-residence at the Sheldon Jackson Museum from June 23rd until July 10th. During his residency, Hoffmann will give an artist talk on July 3rd and in August, return to teach a formline block print making class for youth ages 5-10.
Videos of recorded Alaska Native Artist Residency Program talks and most Alaska Native Artist Residency classes will be posted to the Friends of Sheldon Jackson Museum Facebook page, website, and Youtube Channel soon after they have been filmed.
The Sheldon Jackson Museum is open Wednesday through Sunday between 9am and 4pm. Admission fees for adults is $9, $8 for ages 65+, and free for youth 18 and under or for Friends of Sheldon Jackson Museum or Alaska State Museum members.
